It Made All The Difference

Brown Fever

This would be my first post. So let me introduce, I'm Keerti. I'm 16 going on 17, and my Birthday is in May. I am an IBARD: Indian Born American Raised Desi. I have lived in the United States for 14 years now.

Finally, the new Indian wave has caught up with me and I feel as if I'm trying to find my place in my own culture. I just went to India recently, (and George W. Bush followed), and returned thinking of the place of Indian-Americans, and how we adopted this term. Much of the media has been focusing on India recently with the Nuclear deal with India. There was also a Newsweek Issue about "Indian-American" and how teens like myself feel in this environment of two communities, two societies, feeling lacking and inadequacies in both.

And coming up now in my highschool is prom, and I'm in need of advice from my friends, teachers, and possibly fellow desis out there, how to convince the parents who both went to school in India (so never experienced high school here or prom) to let me go.

Hey Keerti
Welcome to the Blogsphere/Blogland whatever you want to call it. I have no clue (I'm ignorant, I admit it) what an IBARD is. Thing is though, you're a human being. That's all that matters! Your neural pathways are wired just the same as mine.
